A beautiful drive along the eastern shore of Lake Windermere through the Medieval Village of Cartmel to Holker Hall - one of the most impressive gardens and country houses in Lakeland. The tour operates everyday except Saturday from Apr to Sept.

09:15

Pick up from your guesthouse to depart down the eastern shore of Lake Windermere to the spectacular viewpoint at Gummers How. The Coniston Fells and the full length of Lake Windermere stretch out below you. After enjoying the views we travel to the medieval village of Cartmel – famous for its Priory, horse races and sticky toffee pudding!

10:20

Only a short distance from the sea we soon reach Holker Hall, a magnificently situated country house set in beautiful countryside with gardens merging into parkland, hills on one side and the expanse of Morecambe Bay on the other. Holker is one of the most impressive historic country houses in England and the gardens are often referred to as the Chelsea of the north of England.

Your tour includes entrance to The Hall and gardens and you are free to explore the immaculately kept gardens - 25 acres in all! Holker Hall itself dates from the sixteenth century and inside you can admire the grand staircase, Chippendale furniture and library with over 3500 books. The Courtyard Café is an ideal spot to sample locally produced food or enjoy a cream tea before visiting the gift shop where many items have been personally selected by Lady Cavendish.

12:20

Depart for the return journey to Bowness on Windermere.
Optional add on - on the return journey there is the wonderful scenic option of leaving the tour bus and returning to Bowness by a combination of steam train and lake cruise – ask your driver for details.
